The Position:

The Counselor works with individuals, families and groups to promote optimum mental health. Under the supervision of the Clinical Services Director, the Counselor ensures consistent implementation of client care to help clients achieve their goals, by providing counseling services using one or more forms of psychosocial intervention.


Essential Functions
  • Provides counseling, therapy and/or psychotherapy to clients and families; prepares treatment plans, discharge plans, and follow-up care programs; provides therapeutic crisis intervention and emergency services.
  • Secures information on medical, psychological, and social factors contributing to the client’s situation through interview, case history, psychological tests, and/or observational techniques; evaluates information to identify causes of problems and to determine proper therapeutic approach or referral to other specialists.
  • Provides and/or arranges for therapeutic interventions as appropriate for patients or clients in a crisis situation and for those with serious disturbance problems.
  • Follows up to determine reliability and validity of treatment used; makes recommendations regarding modification to services and service delivery; communicates with and counsels family members as appropriate.
  • Works as a team member with other professions in delivery of care management services; Consults with other therapists and related professional and paraprofessional staff, as appropriate, in the performance of therapeutic and/or casework
  • Participates in the review of clinical issues and program policies and procedures.
  • Refers clients to JFS programs, community resources, and other organizations as needed. May determine or participate in determining client’s eligibility for financial assistance.
  • Completes case record documentation and prepares reports. Develops and/or reviews service plan and performs follow up to determine quality and quantity of service provided to client and status of client’s case. Provides feedback to PQI committee on results.
  • Plans and facilitates community outreach and education activities.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and support of the JFS mission and values.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned
  • Complies with all company policies and standards.


Characteristics of the candidate we are seeking

  • Interviewing, psychosocial assessment, and diagnostic skills. Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic plans and make individual modifications.
  • Experience in making classroom/community presentations.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining accurate and timely case record documentation.
  • Skill in gathering data, compiling information, and preparing reports.
  • Knowledge of community support services and resources.
  • Ability to use general office equipment, computers, and related software programs.


Requirements

  • Education: Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychotherapy or other related field
  • Work Experience: Experience directly related to the delivery of psychotherapy and/or social services.
  • Licenses, Certifications and Professional Affiliations: Licensure as a clinical social worker, psychologist, or counselor is required. LPCC, LPC, LMHC, LMSW, LCSW
